Can I come to an event on my own?
Yes. That is one of the main reasons this group exists. You can turn up solo and still have something easy to join in with.
What happens after I fill in the form?
The WhatsApp invite opens after the form submits successfully. You can then request to join, and an admin can verify your form submission.
Is this an organisation or company?
No. Exeter Social Circle is a local, independent group currently run in spare time. Events are relaxed, realistic and shaped around what members actually want to do.
Is this only for students?
No. It is for people in and around Exeter who want to meet others, whether you work, study, recently moved here, or just want a wider social circle.
What age range is the group for?
The group is aimed at people in their 20s, with 19 year olds also accepted.
Will my phone number be shared publicly?
No. Your number is used for the join process. It is not posted publicly on the website.
Is it free to join?
Joining the community is free. Some events may have normal costs, such as food, drinks, venue entry or sports court hire. The aim is to keep plenty of plans low cost or free where possible.
What kind of events happen?
Events can include board games, cafés, pub quizzes, meals out, walks, badminton, casual sports, online gaming, picnics, BBQs and relaxed nights out.
Do I need to be confident or extroverted?
No. You do not need to be loud, funny or instantly best mates with everyone. The group is meant to make the first step easier, not more intense.
Can I suggest or help organise an event?
Yes. Member ideas are welcome, especially simple plans that make it easier for people to get involved. If you want to help co-run or organise events, you can say so in the community or contact the group.
How do introductions work?
After joining WhatsApp, ask for the introductions password. You can then add a short intro on the Introductions page so people recognise you before your first event.
What if the WhatsApp invite does not open?
After the join form submits, the invite is also shown on screen as a backup link. If it still does not work, use the Contact page and explain what happened.
Are there rules?
Yes. The rules are there to keep the group friendly, respectful and comfortable for new people as well as regulars. You can read them on the Rules page.
How often are events organised?
The aim is to have regular plans, but the schedule can vary depending on availability, weather, venue bookings and what members want to do.
